KATA AND KUMITE COMPETITION RULES

STRUCTURE OF THE COMPETITION / summary

a. WSEKU competition is divided into two main branches: KATA and KUMITE

b. Each KATA and KUMITE competition will be divided into various categories: male female, individualor teams.

c. Each KATA and KUMITE competition will be divided into various age categories:

CHILDREN 4-5 / 6-7/ 8-9 / 10-11 years old

COPII 12-13 ani

CADETS 14-15 years old

JUNIORS 16-17 years old

YOUNG 18-20 years old

SENIORS 21-35 years old

MASTERS (VETERANS) 36 years or older

d. The kata competition, for all age categories, only Kata from the official and Rengokai list are allowed.
e. It is possible to start in kata and kumite in the same age category, but it’s not possible to start in kumite in the same age category in different weight classes. For example: kumite cadet male -50 kg can compete in kumite junior male -55 kg, but not in cadet kumite -50 kg and cadet -55 kg! In kata categories it is only possible to start in 2 categories. For example: cadet male and junior male or young and senior.ți masculin și juniori masculin sau tineret și seniori.

WSEKU / KATA competition will be divided into:

In a Kata Event, a Kata is performed in a tatami area. The Referee’s make a decision in order to declare a winner. The different types of Kata Events or Matches are as follow:

Arbitration: Red and Blue flag system.

The registered Kata’s will be announced by the athletes and performed simultaneously at the same time by the competitors placed in the drawing sheets.

Team Kata: 3 Competitors will perform the same Kata and starting by facing to the front or shomen at a starting position of their choice. The team is given a score by Red and Blue flag system. The 3 competitors have a choice to form a triangle or a reversed triangle.

Bunkai: Bunkai shall be applied only in Senior categories and Masters. și Masters.

Children I. 4-5 Years”  compulsory (1 KATA) at least 1 kata is required, the same kata can be repeated.                                                                              

Children II. 6-7 Years" compulsory (2 KATA) at least 2 different kata are required in each round, but only after the second round is it possible to repeat (the same kata or others, by rotation).

Children III 8-9 Years" compulsory (2 KATA) at least 2 different kata are required in each round, but only after the second round is it possible to repeat (the same kata or others, by rotation).

Children IV 10-11 Years"  compulsory (2 KATA) at least 2 different kata are required in each round, but only after the second round is it possible to repeat (the same kata or others, by rotation).

Minicadets 12-13 Years”  compulsory (3 KATA) at least 2 different kata are required in each round, but only after the second round is it possible to repeat (the same kata or others, by rotation).

Cadets 14-15 Years", „Juniors 16-17 Years", „Youth 18-20 Years", „Seniors 18-35 Years" and „Masters +35 Years”

(Open-Kata Free-WSEKU list Kata). The kata cannot be repeated.

The coach or athlete must register the Kata name before performing the Kata,

The Kata competition (arbitration in the flag system) with 5 referees (depending on the number of referees it can be with 3 judges by the decision of the Referee Committee). The performance system is by direct elimination without repechage two places are awarded three more in the kata test, the form of exercise is performed simultaneously at the same time for the age group 4-13 years. In kata medal bouts, both aka and ao will perform the kata alone.

Both AKA and AO will perform Kata together in the knockout rounds Group Final, Semi-Final and Final Kata will be performed separately.

In the team kata the teams will perform separately, in the team kata all team members will face the head referee and must salute all together at the starting line and the starting line. In the team kata competition, the reserve athlete must be entered.

For kata teams: MIXED KATA TEAMS are also accepted, i.e. each mixed team can contain: 2 girls + 1 boy = girls team or 2 boys + 1 girl = team boys

WSEKU / KUMITE competition will be divided into:

      • SHOBU IPPON (2 point competition)
      • SHOBU NIHON (4 point competition)
      • SHOBU SANBON (6 point competition)
      • SPORT KUMITE (8 point competition)
      • BUDO KUMITE (10 point competition)

Protectors: Gum shields, approved type red and blue mitts, shin pads and foot protection, for women chest protection, over 12 years are mandatory. For all kumite competitors body protector is optional. All competitors must have their own red and blue belts.
